Update [May. 16th, 2007|12:23 am]
[mood |busy]
[music |Serenity - Godsmack]

Hope everyone is doing okay - as it's been a while. I have been having to go to the office more than usual this week, as the Office Manager took a couple of weeks of leave and I offered help and well, it was accepted.

In the meantime, I have been starting an exercise program which is going pretty well. Disney is less than two months away and I refuse to let it kick my ass. I did gt to buy a couple of outfits in a smaller size last week, including a pair of clearance jeans that are having to now be washed in hot water....yea!

What else? Oh yeah, Xander graduated from puppy school; however, he is still in need of a lot more education.

Lastly, I went to see Godsmack tonight and they were absolutely phenomenal. Opening band sucked big time - I knew we should've gone late, but we didn't. Now I'm trying to make myself sleep because I have to go in to the office early tomorrow again, but it's difficult to do. I was also wanting to get ready for a garage sale this weekend - we'll have to see how that goes.

Life keeps punching....one day I'll be the winner I'm sure [Mar. 6th, 2007|04:37 pm]
[mood | annoyed]

I am about ready to start my panhandling way of life for about a month to see if it would help. Talk about some serious bad money issues....it started a few weeks ago when Tripp received a fast driving award from Gwinnett's finest. Did I mention that it was in a construction zone? Well, I kept on asking and asking about the fine trying to get him to call and he finally did it last Thursday. His court date was Thursday at 9am. He missed it. We got the bench warrant in the mail Saturday that he has to take care of as soon as he gets home for $558. Can you say ouch?

Well, to top it off, he was heading out of town on Friday for one of his CW events and he tied it to work this week sohe was going to take my car so he'd get mileage (he's gone until tomorrow night). Well, it wouldn't start. I had to have it towed Monday. Seems the timing belt broke and it's not an easy fix.... another $1100. Yep - even bigger OUCH!

And at some point I have to do our taxes - I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that we don't owe this year.

I was so happy that we were done with February (seems that month just sucks financially - all the bills and less time to pay them). This was going to be the month we got ahead....apparently not. Instead, we fall further behind. Here comes more love/hate relations with credit.

When it gets bad, at least my animals make me feel better.

Puppy Life [Feb. 9th, 2007|11:53 am]
[mood | cheerful]
[music |Bother - Stone Sour]

We just got a Puppy - 3 days ago. Xander is his name and he is half Beagle and half Basenji. He looks a lot like a puppy version of Snoopy's cousin, Spike, but being the Buffy fans that we are, he just didn't look like a SPIKE, which is what I think of with that name! Naming was very difficult, as I was leaning towards a cool Musketeer name like Aremis or Athos, but when we got him he was more like Porthos and that's not very fun to say. So, Xander it is....although we thought Banshee Tuesday night. Suffered through a lot of Banshee like screaming - sort of a cross between a chicken and an otter os something like that - not a pleasant noise at all though.

Overall, he is in very good health and is extremely cute. Will post a picture soon!

In other news, the working from home is going well - when I'm busy. This week wasn't a busy week though and I know that was good getting the puppy and all, but it still makes me feel guilty when I don't have a lot to do.

Lastly, we went to the mountains this past weekend for hubby's birthday. IT WAS FREEZING - literally, so the hot tub was not able to be utilized quite like we usually do. The cabin we stayed in was not our choice - chosen cabin was unaccessible even with 4 wheel drive with the snow, so we chose another - not big on the privacy, but the cabin was very nice. Maybe we'll have to do it again soon and make up for the problems with this one. We were surrounded by horses though and they were fun to watch.

Alaska - Day 4 [Sep. 2nd, 2006|10:48 pm]
We hit Juneau today and had wonderful weather and went to land for the first time since Wednesday when we got on the ship. For us, this is not a bad thing though - the act of cruising itself is what we really enjoy. On Thursday, we had a day at sea that began with an up close look at an amazing glacier (around 6:30am). We actually got up and took pictures and then went back to sleep - sort of!

Sitka was Friday and we remained on the ship because the weather was UGLY and there wasn't a great deal that lured us into the city.

Today was great though - amazing scenery and we saw 2 bald eagles, 4 orca whales and a couple of glimpses of humpback whales. There was also the scared harbor seals that Tripp saw (though I could never quite make them out). Apparently one of their 'clan' was taken by the orca whales leaving them somewhat frightened - guess I would be too. That's the way of nature though.

We are in Skagway tomorrow and will hopefully have good weather again. No bears seen yet - maybe tomorrow!

BoKitty passes to Summerland... [Jun. 18th, 2006|11:06 pm]
Well, it was a tough Father's Day for BoDaddy (aka Tripp) since we took Bo in and left without him. He had chronic kidney failure and we could have had him around with an estimate of 6 months or so by doing some drastic treatments including every other day in home fluid treament meaning he would get stuck every other day. Seems he also had some dental problems where his teeth were really hurting him too though....in the end we were selfless and let him go.

Tripp saod he knew it and so did I....BoKitty told him goodbye yesterday and upon thinking about it, he told me too.

We have laughed and cried (a lot) today. his time of passing was around 5pm. Thanks for the wishes of support - he was a very special member of our family (I know they always are, but unless you knew him, it is difficult to explain).

We miss you BO!

I missed ER again! [Apr. 27th, 2006|11:25 pm]
I completely forgor about the show tonight at Meehans. Got a message sent around 7:15, but not until after dinner and it was 8:30....oh well - chalk another up to missing them (and I swore I was going this time). It has been a little crazy - my life as a whole. I got pissed off the first time at my new job the other day. Everything is fine now though - but it has been just a crazy schedule including not getting home before 8 any day this week so far. 6am-8pm makes for a very long day, especially when it's consistently busy.

In other news, I finally made arrangements for our flights in August when we go on our Alaskan cruise (the Anniversary vacation we're missing Dragon Con for). There is just no easy, affordable way to get to Alaska. It started with choosing the connection through Denver, which prompted me to look into splitting the segment so we could spend a day with our friends that moved there last year. So, now we fly to Denver from here. The next day we have another connection (through Seattle) to Anchorage and then we return from Vancouver after the cruise and also have to connect through Phoenix. Three different airlines and six cities later - Whew...I might need a vacation after my vacation. Luckily we have a night in Alaska too (in hopes that if luggage is lost, it can catch up to us prior to the cruise). Those hotels aren't cheap either, but we got lucky and are using hubby's Hilton points (30,000 of them for only one night).

Life is food in spite of owing taxes [Apr. 17th, 2006|10:29 am]
[mood | happy]

Just put my check in the mail to our friendly IRS. I really hate having to pay...I filed a bit ago, but always hold onto my money until the deadline. We did at least get a little back from the state and it apparently hit the account today so that was a good thing.

Had a really good weekend starting Friday with a friend's birthday celebration (most of you know segansca). Then, Saturday we went to Steeplechase and although we really didn't watch the races too closely, the day was extremely enjoyable. Awesome day of lounging in a chair. Although I thought I was shaded most of the day, I still got a little sunburned - mostly on my chest (in a lovely 'V' shape from my shirt). We also listened to the Thrashers game while there - sounded exciting to see. My boss LOVES hockey!

Overall, a nice weekend which concluded in some family games - Plunder and Phase 10.

Too much fun? [Mar. 20th, 2006|11:25 pm]
[mood | thankful]
[music |BTVS - season 6 finale(or close to it)]

I meant to post over the weekend, but just ran out of time and energy....after the hockey game Thursday, Friday brought the Nickelback show, which was great as I expected, but came with some weirdness. It began with me in the car awaiting my sister to show with niece and nephew. I, who usually have no problems taking my purse as it usually is into an arena show, feeling weird about it and cleaning it out with the exception of all the 'mom' items like ear plugs for everyone should they want them, chapstick, powder the all important Sharpie and a little more that would have made the pockets stick out way too much. I stuck my CC. ID and cash in my pocket and went on in. Little did I know that the one time I didn't take the booklets from any of the bands playing, I would need them, as Trapt did a signing. I ALWAYS take these things...except that day. I think I'm slacking.

Anyway, upon running late, as my sister was, I advised her to not hunt for an ATM, but to come on and she could borrow money from me instead of getting cash herself...well, turns out my wiggins were slightly off that night, though not totally. It was her purse that was lifted, along with the jackets of hers and Erica's and the souvenir hoodie (or is it hoody) I bought my nephew. So, this was noticed about the midway point of Nickelback and my sister went to security while I fetched my boots out from under my seat and put them on to follow. By the time I got to her, the security guards had recovered everything - yes, EVERYTHING! Her purse, jacket and Erica's jacket were found in the ladies room just at our aisle. Her wallet was missing, but it was found in the next alcove along with the souvenir hoodie (I thought for sure that $65 was lost) if nothing else. Seems they were only after cash and she had none.

Sometimes the world works in mysterious ways. We missed about 2.5 songs in all so it wasn't too bad. It then took another couple to get the fury shaken off and start enjoying it again, but Chad in his jeans - an easy way to get back to the good place (sorry honey!)

Anyway, Saturday was a family evening at Jillians where I bruised my hands in the hyperbowling, but it was worth it because I won! Then, Sunday everything caught up to us as we pretty much laid around the house resting. I could use another day or two like that.

I got the job! [Jan. 19th, 2006|10:57 pm]
[mood | relieved]
[music |70's Show]

And I'm mostly happy about it! I just have a bittersweetness about leaving almost four years...and I keep thinking that if they wanted to get rid of me, they'd not think twice, but it's still hard. The comfort zone is real hard to get out of - I just keep telling myself no more inventory that seemed to come around more often than monthly. Woo-hoo! Actually, I think there might be inventory involved, but I don't think it will be taking up Saturdays.

I start 2/7, after a long weekend in the mountains with hubby. We both need it! Poor guy has had to deal with a lot of changes this year already...in case you didn't know, we....

*Repainted the kitchen, family room, stairs/hallway, and 3 bathrooms (including some wallpaper border work)
*Replaced all the faucets, towel racks & TP holders
*New light fixtures downstairs
*Replaced wall plates in 5 rooms
*Replaced our family & breakfast rooms furniture
*Ordered new blinds/window treatments for all the windows (should be installed next week I think)
*Reorganized cabinets, closets and other furniture

It's been busy since the last week of 2005...and somewhere in there I got a new job.

It's been an interesting 2006 so far and it's only just begun.

Oh yeah - before you think we did this on our own - I did have a painter/handyman who actually did painting/wallpapering and replaced the towel holders as he went since he had to remove them anyway. I'm not as energized as all that (that would be [info]faolin....if so, it would never happen! Meet Tripp, AKA "Mr. Change BAD"! Yes, he is in overload!

[mood | happy]

Second interview went really well (at least I thought so). We'll see!

I think they will make a decision by end of week, so keep fingers crossed! And thanks for all the well-wishes!

I'm hoping that my good feel inpromptu visit from Elaine and Belle pushed a good day into better....She was absolutely adorable!

CH-CH-CH-Changes [Dec. 31st, 2005|12:03 pm]
[mood | optimistic]
[music |Changes, Bowie - in my head of course]

Well, after much waiting, Tripp and I got our new furniture. Preparing for this was not easy. Bless his heart, Tripp amazingly cooperated all week in trying to get things moved around and readied for the furniture. From problems of getting rid of our old sofa - finally posted a note for our installers at work and got someone who came and got it - to moving the big entertainment center upstairs because it wouldn't work sith the new furniture....a week of complete tiredness.

He was a trooper - even through getting a cold from his family's side Christmas gathering...I haven't gotten it so far (and I'm knocking on wood now). Led me to think he was just a little excited to get the furniture too...although he won't admit it. He keeps falling back on that he knew it was important to me and that I'm important to him....either a big lie for him not wanting to admit liking change or he really is a nice guy. (Either way he loses on that one.)

Anyway, delivery of furniture didn't come without a glitch or two. They forgot the wedge on the sofa which connects the two loveseats....and they brought the wrong end tables. After much fussing, they said they couldn't deliver until next week, Well, this was unacceptable and we decided to go get the remaining pieces ourselves. Well, the correct tables weren't in stock and the wedge wouldn't fit in the Xterra, so a co-worker of his helped with his truck and after fussing to the manager, he upgraded our tables to some that we had liked, but were $275 more than what we ended up choosing. They are a little more modern than anyone would expect...well, they come in boxes - unassembled instead of together as the wrong ones came when delivered so yet again, Tripp has to put them together.

After all this, the tables are too big for the furniture, especially the coffee table. Not sure what we're going to do, but will wait until next week to make a decision.

Anyway, going to visit the niece today and then finish getting ready for friends to come over for the New Year's festivities.

AHHHHHHHHHH - welcome 2006! Everyone stay safe!

Nashville Weekend [Dec. 6th, 2005|09:47 am]
[mood | chipper]
[music |Alice In Chains - Man in the Box]

Had a wonderful weekend with Tripp's group of friends this past weekend. I enjoy this weekend each year because it lets me visit with all of the people Tripp associates with without the normal activities they are doing (shooting guns and stuff).

Friday night I did dress up though - as there was a huge Christmas 'period' ball in historical downtown Franklin, TN. The couple that throws this bash know how to party. It really felt like walking into one of those great pre-war parties of the wealthy south....with perks (indoor plumbing and electricity). They even had a musical quartet (who also plays Irish music) and a period magician for entertainment.

We had the relic show on Saturday which was okay (looks more the same to me each year, but I digress). The dinner on Saturday has actually seemed to ween out wives with the exception of 2-3. And I was the only one who's husband needed to stay for the meeting so I was the only wife there for that and I told Tripp that I was always going to be there because I like the Irish Pub they meet at.

On Sunday, we did brunch at Belle Meade which was the treat that we missed last year with problems at home. It was very nice to be with Tripp all weekend even if the weather was less than great.

This year's result: looking forward to next year already!

An day of theatre [Nov. 28th, 2005|10:36 am]
[mood | sleepy]

Took my sister to see Menopause....the Musical yesterday afternoon. It was a lot of fun. I recommend to women all over if you just want a fun time. I believe it's running through December at the 14th Street Playhouse.

Afterwards, went to see Cymbeline at the Shakespeare Tavern. I've missed the place, as my schedule has been so crazy I've missed 3 months there. Cymbeline was long but really good considering it's a play I'd never heard of before.

2 thumbs up all around!

Turkey Day Summary [Nov. 24th, 2005|09:56 pm]
Went pretty well today. In spite of Tripp and I both feeling under the weather the past few days (and today), we took things slow. Yesterday I prepped most of the food and we set the tables. This morning Tripp put the turkey in the oven and we both did a little and watched the parade.

Shortly after the noon people started arriving. Sister first followed shortly by niece and her friend. Only took 10 minutes before they got into it and sis was leaving. I swear those two...very much like my mom and her husband - it always starts over nothing. A comment taken the wrong way blows up. Well, after talking to Erica, she called Sharron and got her to come back and there was no other blow ups. Thankfully, Tripp talked to both of them and basically re-explained the meaning of Thanksgiving.

Everything else went off without a hitch except my gravy would never thicken up...still tasty, just not quite thick enough. Even the blessing was well received. I love my husband - for the past few years, he's jumped right in and offered to do it so that it is a non-denominational blessing. And yes, he remembered all the troops and veterans in case you all were wondering.

After most people left, sis played games with Tripp and I. She won Finish Lines and I won Monopoly (a traditional game played after Thanksgiving in my family). If mom had stayed, she would've won - always does.

So, that's most of it. Overall, I really had a nice Thanksgiving. I thought of all my friends (my other family) throughout the day and sent you all blessings - hope you all had nice days.

Fuel Surcharge Rant [Nov. 6th, 2005|10:57 am]
Why this bothers me so much? I have no idea, but our lawn care people came this week and on the bill, there was a $1 fuel surcharge. It really pissed me off. I know the cost of business goes up with inflation, but this week fuel has been quite cheap (comparitively) and since the average person doesn't get to add money for their daily commute and yet has to tighten the belt to pay for gas, so too should corporate America. I know it's only ONE DOLLAR, but....with every added surcharge on stuff, it adds up and this one put me over edge (can you tell).

I decided I'm not paying it! The people who actually cut my grass didn't do this and I'm sure they burn more fuel. Plus, this company raised prices by $2 a visit this time last year. Over the last five years they've gone up $4. If they get huffy, we'll just go with someone else.

Who'd of thunk it? [Oct. 17th, 2005|11:01 pm]
You scored as Satanism. Your beliefs most closely resemble those of Satanism! Before you scream, do a bit of research on it. To be a Satanist, you don't actually have to believe in Satan. Satanism generally focuses upon the spiritual advancement of the self, rather than upon submission to a deity or a set of moral codes. Do some research if you immediately think of the satanic cult stereotype. Your beliefs may also resemble those of earth-based religions such as paganism.

Back to reality [Sep. 25th, 2005|10:32 pm]
[mood | chipper]

I want to go back.....I love cruising. 7 glorious days on the ocean (well, 6 - as one was very shaky as we were in a storm system sandwich dodging Phillipe and Rita). We had a fabu time and this was one of the first visits to the Bahamas that turned out very good (usually get stuck going through too many harassers to braid hair and so forth). This time, I opted for the Blue Lagoon shore excursion with Brenda (an old friend who also took this cruise) and would do it again in a heartbeat. A boat takes you over to where the movie was filmed and after having a refreshing swim in the ocean, I napped a good two hours in a hammock under the palm trees with a lovely breeze...it was absolute heaven. Tripp missed this as he didn't want to get off the ship again in the Bahamas. He missed it, but won't next time, should we hit the port again.

Next was St Thomas, which is one of my favorite places....did some snorkling, the Bob Underwater adventure (only described with pics which I don't have yet) and shopping (yes I have a new shiny sparkly on my finger).

St Maarten was the least favorite...because we were on the Dutch side. Last time, we stayed on the French for our brief visit and had a much better time.

Best parts - Hammock, sex on the sea, and seeing our friend Brenda - hadn't seen her since she moved over a year and a half ago.
